New for 2017 is this Bird of Prey photography workshop on Tuesday 10th October at Cressing Temple Barns near Witham, Essex, in association with Eden Falconry. We will be photographing a variety of species from natives such as Kestrel, Barn Owl and Tawny Owl, to others like their beautiful Bald Eagle 'Zephyr', and some of these will be flying, some static, giving us a range of different compositions throughout the day.
We will meet at Cressing Temple Barns at 9.30am for a brief introduction and orientation, discussing what we will be covering during the workshop, which is 100% practical photography to give us the maximum time with the birds. We'll then get started, using the woodland, barns, and beautiful walled garden on site to give us a wide range of styles and settings for the birds. There's a Tiptree Tea Room here too, so we can have a delicious lunch before carrying on until we finish with the birds at 3.30pm.
Throughout the day Daniel will be there to advise how best to set your camera up, discussing angles to shoot from, composition ideas, and anything else you need to ask me. As we'll be shooting both in and outdoors, there will be lots to take in regarding settings, using the correct ISOs, white balance and so on, and we'll also cover focusing modes and how to control focus points, especially useful for those tricky flight shots!
The barns allow us to carry on shooting should the weather not be in our favour, but also provide a wonderful backdrop for the Barn Owl especially. There will be a maximum of ten participants on this workshop, so everyone will have plenty of 1-2-1 time with Daniel, and as usual Daniel will not be racing off at the end of the day, so if you wish to stay on to chat or discuss any part of the day that won't be a problem at all.
Ideally participants will be using a DSLR or Compact System Camera with interchangeable lenses, as these cameras generally have quicker focusing and greater control, but any camera will be fine for the static photos.
The cost for the day is £90 per person, but we have a limited time 'Early Bird' offer of £85 for bookings taken before midnight on Thursday 31st August, book now to save some cash! Use the form below to book and pay, you do not need a Paypal account to book your place, you can simply pay by credit or debit card.
We'll spend the day at Cressing Temple Barns, taking photos of various bird of prey species such as Kestrel, Barn Owl, Tawny Owl, Buzzard, Bald Eagle (the birds present during the workshop cannot be guaranteed, and will be dependent on bird condition and availability). A variety of posed and flight shots will be taken, spending a good amount of time with each bird, with a maximum of 7-8 different birds being photographed throughout the day, this will depend on the group's wishes and needs on the day.
The workshop will start at 9.30am with a short introduction, explanation of the day, introduction to the Eden Falconry team, and orientation, then we get to 'work' photographing the birds. We will break for lunch around midday - lunch is not included, feel free to bring a packed lunch, or get something in the 'Barns Tea Room'. There will then be further photography through the afternoon, finishing around 3.30pm, and you will then have the option to stay on and have a chat and look through the photos from the day, or make your way home.
A reasonable knowledge of your camera would be useful, but Daniel will help you get the right settings for each situation, with 1-2-1 tuition available for everyone throughout the day, as well as group instruction when appropriate.
My Bird of Prey Photography Workshop costs £90 per person, with a maximum of 10 participants.
The workshop runs for 6 hours (including lunch break), and is purely a practical photography session, with a mixture of outdoor and inddor locations. Everyone gets some 1-2-1 time, which can be used to address any aspect of the camera, photography, or anything else you wish to discuss.
No. I have had customers as young as 10 on a standard workshop (I'm happy for children to be chaperoned if preferred), and have even run workshops for children's groups, with an age range of 7-11. The other end of the age spectrum is no hindrance either!
